Dionysia
350BCE in a village outside Athens
Four women meet to celebrate the Festival of Dionysius. It’s time to eat, drink and be merry (and squabble over a lifetime of grievances). Dionysia is a comedy about the stories a little community tells itself.

Roles
-
Ambitious and newly married (to a man she barely likes), she has her sights set on all the influence a craftsman’s wife can accrue.
-
A third-generation shepherd, she's caught between her aunt Penelope's expectations, her fears and dreams of travelling the world.
-
She has the presence and force of will of a general, with the responsibilities of a village matriarch. Rather than commanding armies, she's keeping her small community in line.
-
Age and chronic illness haven't made her less strong willed, less obscene or given her any more reverence for "the way things are done".
For all roles, we have a preference for Global Majority actors.
Other casting considerations:
CHLOE & XANTHE
Keen to hear from queer performers
CASSANDRA
Look for disabled/chronically ill performers
